This is a conversation that has existed for a long time in poker. While some poker players have excelled at playing live poker, some others are only good at playing online. A select few poker players have mastered both modes of playing poker. The question now is how to bring over those skills you have been using to crush things in the virtual poker games to live poker games effortlessly. We will be looking at five major differences between playing live poker and playing online.

Number of hands playing at a time

When playing an online poker game, there are usually a lot of hands being dealt at the same time. There could be up to 100 hands being played at the same time in an online tournament. Compared to a live poker game which is slower paced.

Location

Online is simply what it is, online. It is nothing compared to showing up all dressed up and socializing with fellow poker players. This is something social media or live video streams cannot measure up to. It is more fun exchanging banters with people that you can see than with online avatars that most times do not have faces. On the flipside, visiting live casinos can be time demanding and expensive especially if you have to travel. For this reason, some people stick with playing poker online, and the feel of playing online sometimes is like playing live too.

Different strategies

Online poker players have distinct characteristics when compared to live poker players. When it comes to lower levels of buy-in, online players are less loose than live players. So in your poker strategy, you can choose when to ramp up aggression. In online poker, players are more aggressive and tighter and can mix their range better than live poker players because they do not have to look into anybody's eyes before making moves and they do not have to give away any physical tells. So, in a live poker game, if you notice a loose player who has a certain range, there is the likelihood that things will remain that way until they leave the table.

More frequent bad beats

In online poker, there tends to be more callers and this could lead to more bad beats for the players. Since there are usually more hands in online poker games, this also enhances the occurrence of bad beats. Bad beats happen as a result of lower limits and small stakes which encourages more calls.

Difference in stakes

This is another reason that we can add to the list. For different reasons, there are usually more highly skilled players in a live poker game than online poker. For instance, in an online poker game, there will be more players than in a similar live poker game. This is because there are usually lower-stake games available while in live poker games, you may not find any available.
